Tender.ly is designed to provide a simple-to-implement solution for companies wanting to move from paper-based to online procurement.

"I'm really excited about tender.ly. It will be one of the few tendering platforms on the market specifically designed for the needs of engineering and construction companies, and we've put a lot of work into creating a fantastic user interface for it", said Jason Langenauer, Constrex's managing director.

To ensure that engineering and construction procurement can be done to meet project deadlines, tender.ly integrates with engineering schedules. This means managers can see late procurement packages, and take action before they affect the overall project schedule.

The tender.ly software runs on a company's own servers, allowing it to be integrated with their existing web presence. As well, it can use Amazon's S3 to store the large documents and files typical of most engineering projects, so companies can realise IT cost savings from utilising cloud-based storage if they wish.

The supply agreement will see Call Direct provide 4,500 3G modem units to Chubb, delivered over the first half of 2010. With 3,500 similar devices having been supplied in previous orders, this is potentially one of the largest deployments of its type in Australia.

The new modems will assist Chubb in transitioning from the older 2G/GPRS technologies that it currently uses for the alarm monitoring services it provides to fire

brigades in eastern Australian states. The reliability and coverage of the Australian 3G network, coupled with the industrial strength of the Call Direct products, make this a robust and cost-effective solution for Chubb to maintain the high standard of its services and allows for expansion of its business to other Australian states.

“The decision to transition to 3G will provide Chubb with access to new markets,” says Barry Mitchell, Manager of Call Direct.

“Call Direct’s custom built hardware and central monitoring software also offers a development path for future-proofing Chubb’s services and provides a system that will support their core business requirements for years to come,” Mr Mitchell said.

The growth of the ‘Machine-to-Machine’ (M2M) market for 3G devices has been substantial in recent years. As 3G solutions have become more economical, the devices have been rapidly incorporated into all manner of installations and equipment, allowing them to submit automatic reports back to a central processing and monitoring facility. Using 3G equipment to carry the signal saves the time and cost associated with installing phone lines, especially in difficult or remote locations.

Call Direct has been at the forefront of the industrial 3G and M2M market sectors for some years now. This success is vital to NetComm’s current strategy, which sees the Australian firm focussing strongly on 3G devices and developing growth in overseas markets.

This was ATP Innovations’ second renewal of the designation they earned in 2005.

Through its Soft Landings program, NBIA recognizes incubators that are especially capable of helping nondomestic companies enter the incubator's domestic market. ATP Innovations was selected for the program because of its slate of business services for nondomestic firms and its demonstrated success at helping firms enter the Australian market, said Randy Morris, NBIA director of membership.

Business incubation programs like ATP Innovations catalyze the process of starting and growing companies by providing entrepreneurs with the expertise, networks and tools they need to make their ventures successful. Incubating nondomestic firms takes more than the standard set of incubation services, however. "The Soft Landings designation recognizes an incubator's focus on welcoming nondomestic firms into its domestic market with translation services, help cutting through governmental red tape, access to capital, domestic market research and other programs," Morris said.

A panel of experienced NBIA-member incubator managers evaluated the Soft Landings applications. According to Morris, the judges were impressed with ATP Innovations’ unique support for nondomestic firms.

ATP Innovations accentuates its standard incubation services with assistance tailored specifically to nondomestic firms, including their bizStart, bizConnect and bizNetClub programs, which help foreign companies establish strategic relationships with a highly qualified network of technology experts in Australia.

NBIA’s Soft Landings designations are effective for two years; programs must reapply biennially for continuing designation. There is no cap on the number of designations available in a given year or over time. ATP Innovations is one of only 16 business incubation programs from around the world that have earned the designation since NBIA began the program in 2005.

The National Business Incubation Association is the world’s leading organization advancing business incubation and entrepreneurship.

The surge in business is partly driven by the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System “NGERS”, which required certain businesses to report on their energy use, production and greenhouse gas emissions by October 31 this year.

Omni Meta’s partner, carbonsystems, has successfully delivered ECIS reporting to 5 major clients for NGERS this October. Customers of note included Macquarie University with its extensive facilities, a large rural group encompassing over 700 locations, one of the countries largest facility managers and Metcash. These clients can now also track their ongoing performance through the monthly management reports and on-line access to their carbon emissions which are gathered from data collected across their entire organisation. The key to this has been the ability of ECIS to automate the arduous task of data collection and provide data assurance tools to track missing data and qualify the validity of all data received.

Many other businesses are critically appraising their processes to quantify their carbon emissions and identify ways these can be minimised across all aspects of production and delivery. Domino’s Pizza is an outstanding example of this focus and commitment and is employing the ECIS platform to report, identify opportunities for improvement and track the effectiveness of their interventions.
